In his new role, Taylor will be directly involved with CHW's executive leadership team in system goal setting, planning and decision making. He will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic goals and achieving results in his service areas.
"We are impressed by Michael's engaging and highly relational leadership style," said Marvin O'Quinn, CHW senior executive vice president and chief operating officer. "We believe his goal-oriented approach to addressing community health needs, growth, and team development will be an excellent fit with CHW's culture."
"It is an honor to be joining an organization that has such a strong legacy of service to the region," said Taylor. "I am looking forward to working with a team of outstanding physicians and caregivers as we build an even more clinically integrated delivery system for the communities we serve."
Taylor brings more than 30 years in healthcare leadership, most recently from Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, Texas, where he served as a senior vice president of operations for the nationally known and respected not-for-profit health care system. His role involved direct responsibility for seven acute care hospitals and two specialty heart hospitals. He brings a wealth of experience that includes operations, strategic planning, governance, joint ventures, and physician alignment.
He has also served as president/chief executive officer of Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital. Prior to that role, he spent two years with MedCath Inc. in Tucson, where he served as the president and chief executive officer in charge of managing the organization's partnership with Carondelet Health Network and physician investors. He also spent 13 years in increasingly responsible positions with Oakwood Healthcare System in Dearborn, Michigan.
Taylor, 56, holds an associate of science degree in radiology technology and a bachelor of science degree in health care management from the Medical College of Virginia. He has dual master's degrees in management and public administration from Purdue University and the University of Southern California, respectively. He also holds a doctorate of public administration (ABD) from the University of Southern California.
Taylor will take over duties from Sister Bridget McCarthy, who has been serving as interim leader of the Greater Sacramento - San Joaquin service area for the past six months. "I want to thank Sister Bridget for her leadership in Sacramento." said O'Quinn. "Her many contributions, including her focus on bringing the various parts of this service area together and actively seeking opportunities for collaboration and integration throughout, are very much appreciated."
