Top Rated Cardiac Surgeons Join Top Rated Mercy Medical Group
Cardiac Surgery West joins Mercy Medical Group ? enhancing existing Mercy heart program and Mercy Medical Group heart services
Sacramento, CA, January 15, 2011 - Mercy Medical Group (MMG), a service of CHW Medical Foundation, is very pleased to announce that the cardiac surgeons of Cardiac Surgery West (CSW) have joined MMG as of January 1, 2011.
"We are excited to announce the addition of superb cardiac surgeons to MMG," says Gregory Cooper, DPM, Chief Medical Officer at Mercy Medical Group. "Mercy Medical Group is a top rated medical foundation clinic in California, and Cardiac Surgery West is a top rated cardiac surgery team, with the most cardiac surgeries performed per year in California, excellent outcomes for patients and cutting edge surgical services." CSW surgeons lead the West Coast in the number of complex valve repair and replacement surgeries performed and are pioneers in minimally invasive techniques, daVinci cardiac surgery, and complex aortic disease treatments.
"We've enjoyed our long and successful relationship with the Mercy hospitals," says Allen Morris, MD, head of the cardiac surgery group. "As we now become an integral part of Mercy Medical Group, we look forward to many more years as part of the top rated Mercy heart program." The CSW doctors helped establish the heart surgery program at Mercy General Hospital in the 1970s and have been key to the Mercy Heart & Vascular Institute's success. They perform all the cardiac surgeries at both Mercy General Hospital and Mercy San Juan Medical Center.
"The Mercy Heart & Vascular Institute has received many awards and top ratings for our cardiac services," says Doris Frazier, RN, MS, Mercy Heart & Vascular Institute Vice President. "The surgeons of Cardiac Surgery West, now Mercy Medical Group, have been a large part of that success."
Mercy General has been named a 100 Top Hospital for Cardiovascualar Care and is a Blue Cross/Blue Shield Distinction Center for Cardiac Care because of the patients' successful outcomes. The hospital has among the lowest mortality rate in California for coronary bypass surgery as reported by the California Office of Statewide Health Planning & Development's CABG Outcomes Reporting Program. The statewide average for CABG mortality in the 2010 report was 2.35%, while Mercy General's was significantly lower - just 0.97%.
The six cardiac surgeons will remain in their current office space at 3941 J Street, Suite 270 in Sacramento, and will continue to serve all the patients who require cardiac surgery at the Mercy hospitals. The cardiac surgery group includes: Allen Morris, MD; Frank Slachman, MD; John Dein, MD; Richard Kaplon, MD; Kapil Sharma, MD; Henry Zhu, MD; George Nava, PA; and Malinda Lydon, RN, CNP.
Their addition to Mercy Medical Group further enhances MMG's ability to provide comprehensive primary and specialty care to the greater Sacramento community.
